How to open an XM account from South Africa, and the rules to read first
Registration takes minutes. The rules that decide whether you can get money out later take longer to find, so they are collected here with sources.
Open an FxPro account →To open an XM account from South Africa, register on XM's own website, choose Standard or Ultra Low from $5 or Shares from $10,000, and upload an ID and proof of address. Before depositing, choose a payment method you would also accept withdrawals to, because XM may route withdrawals back through the method that funded the account.
What XM asks for
These are the usual know-your-customer documents. Document requests come up often in South African reviews about withdrawals, so keep copies of everything you upload.
- An email address and a mobile number
- A government-issued photo ID
- A recent proof of address
- A payment method in your own name — ideally the one you would also accept a withdrawal to
How long: Registration takes minutes; identity checks take longer, and XM can ask for more documents later — South African reviewers describe extra requests at withdrawal time.
Eligibility: Adults only. XM's website says it does not provide services to citizens of the United States, Canada, Israel or Iran, or of sanctioned countries (checked 11 September 2026).
Step by step, on XM's own website
These steps happen on XM’s website. The large button under them opens an account with FxPro instead — this site’s partner — for readers who prefer a different broker.
- Go to XM's own website yourself — this guide does not open XM accounts, and the buttons here lead to FxPro.
- Register with your email and choose an account: Standard or Ultra Low from $5, or Shares from $10,000 (XM account-types page, 11 September 2026).
- Upload your photo ID and proof of address when XM asks, in the client area (the Members Area).
- Before you deposit, pick the payment method you would also accept a withdrawal to — XM's client agreement lets it send withdrawals back through the method that funded the account.
- Try the platform on a demo account first, and keep the account active: after 90 days without activity XM charges a monthly fee of USD 10.
About the 100% deposit bonus
XM advertises a 100% deposit bonus on its website; this guide did not review the full bonus terms, so read them before depositing. Two rules from XM’s client agreement apply regardless: bonus credits are removed from dormant accounts (clause 79.2), and leverage can be changed at any time without notice. In the South African reviews read for this guide, some traders say a bonus was the reason they chose XM and that the cost of trading CFDs disappointed them later.
Before you deposit
It is worth starting with a free demo account to get comfortable with the platform and test your strategy with virtual funds first.
